This project showcases the Ocean’s Eleven opening credits sequence through the use of minimalistic visuals and dynamic transitions. The minimalistic style was inspired by the sharp silhouettes and minimal colors of noir detective films which frequently influence modern crime films. In this genre you’ll typically find smooth criminals, heists, and jazzy soundtracks.

Concept

Ocean's Eleven is a film about a crew of con-artists banding together to pull off a casino heist, therefore the visuals all reference objects you would encounter at a casino.

Since there are eleven relevant characters in this film emphasis needed to be placed on the most important ones. This was done by giving the main characters' their own individual sequence referencing their specific quirks or traits, while secondary characters share their title sequence with each other.

Aesthetic / Color

Inspiration for the transitions and overall visual style was taken from old-school detective films which often feature a noir aesthetic with striking visuals, sharp silhouettes and creative camera angles. Similarly, the title credits were meant to communicate the same approach to sharp visuals and camera-work through the use of dynamic transitions.

For the main color scheme, I drew from the white, red, and black of playing-card suits and poker chips, and the dark green of felted casino tables. These four colors became the guiding element to all of the transitions in the scenes.
